![]() The House was called for the GOP a while ago. The Senate is leaning Democratic, but barely. The GOP is probably going to take a few extra governors' mansions and get to gerrymander to their hearts' content. And our cake was ruined. But I need to say about this situation: it looks bad for sure. All our plans seem ruined. Dinner, certainly. But it's nothing to worry about. There is an equal chance to ruin and satisfy on a day like this. When the smoke clears, we just have to deal with the situation we're in. Some people even like burnt cake. For the next two years, they get to have their way and eat it, too. But I get my way sometimes. So I don't worry. Labels: VoteNest
![]() This is really old news: in fact, this is really old news for the 24-hour news cycle: in fact, this is older than old because there was no chance in hell she'd win: Christine O'Donnell lost her race in Delaware, giving the Democrats something to crack a smile over. Labels: VoteNest
![]() CNN called Kentucky for Rand Paul. Indiana was called for Coats. Let the pity party start for Democrats.
It feels weird to be disenfranchised and for it to be one's own fault. I checked three weeks ago for policy on Illinois absentee ballots. The deadline was gone and dead. No, the Internet can't solve my problems either. Instead, I went back to doing the other parts of my civic duty: the rest of my undemocratic life. But sadly, I won't get to vote in an election I've been urging people to vote in. The most important election of 2010. There's a lack of control in my life today. I feel the need to sit on a couch and tell people that I'm at the mercy of all too many crazies. But I don't worry. I don't despair. Andy and I are going to go bake a cake. P.S. THIS. IS. ![]()

![]() Now that the campaign is at a close and Barack Obama is our first black president, the question comes to mind: will white politicians be marginalized now? As it stands, President-elect Obama has broken through the barrier. He may have to endure the insults, death threats, and actual rocks thrown with only the rock-solid support of his secret service and military, but his calm, forgiving manner will allow him through this. He is the right man to persevere and break through these prejudices, and he has shown the world he can. But now that black people have made it to the White House, the question remains. Major parties might see how much stronger, faster, and better blacks can be at this game. Dems and Republicans might start nominating them to all sorts of federal levels. Soon white politicians could find themselves the minority: blocked, outmanuvered, and out-filibustered. Can whites overcome what history has shown time and time again: that there are people out there who don't look exactly like us that can do jobs once ours better than some of us can? Maybe we can. ![]() From now on, all Live VoteNest VoteDates will be by Twitter. Eaglie and I are off to the festivities! Several parties and one major street party: we're not missing it. However, we did get sound advice from my mom: "Avoid death--and injury. Especially injury. That, your insurance won't cover right now."
![]() Everyone says, technology this, technology that. Networking this, networking that. The power of the people, the power of the Internet, you still don't tremble in its shadow, mighty Status Quo Defenders? Well, shiver before the combined strength of Facebook-status changes during the networking site's first full election cycle! *** * ***** is excited for the impending victory over the forces of xenophobia, ignorance and hate. ***** *******: Victory over spiders? *** * *****: Yes. Apologies to two friends. Labels: VoteNest

![]() George Mason University had a mass system message about voting being delayed until tomorrow. Later this was noted as a hoax, stirring up a flurry about "voter suppression tactics," the "politics of fear," and "racist," not taking into account that college students like to prank. A lot. Also, the score is still 15-6, Obama by three popular-vote field goals. Labels: VoteNest
![]() We're gonna have a party here in Chicago tonight, and they're talking 'bout it all the way to San Francisco! In voting updates, there are no updates. And while you wait: Labels: VoteNest
![]() God, since when was there a line at the old Park District building? However, we survived it, and, thanks to certain friendly voting agencies, me and Andy have cast our ballots for America's future. As with 2006, my precinct used a connect-the-dots approach. Gone are the days of punchcards ("I punched Ross Perot!"): we used a black felt-tip marker to connect one end of an arrow to a point, aimed at a candidate of our choice or judge we wished to retain, for some arcane reason. The examples of how to use this pen were "Frank Sinatra" and "Ray Charles." I doubt this, but a few are saying Ray might be a spoiler in this election. Ol' Blue Eyes would get the tough-on-crime-and-terrorists" vote, and I suppose Frankie could put those votes in play and steal from Sen. McCain. It really depends on the "1950s persona" turnout with this. I did mention those certain friendly voting agencies, right? Labels: VoteNest
Change and maverick will has gotten us to this point. Election Day. And it's midnight of. Throughout the day, I will post a little here, a little there. Due to being out in the big city and at several parties, it will be few and far between. Most likely, my later posts will appear... we'll see. But you realize my efforts need a logo! In the making of the Aviary's new VoteNest, I first thought about my soft spot for my conservative audience. They have been so downtrodden the last five years, being kind of in power. But I figured I'd give them this one: ![]() Then I remembered that my conservative audience doesn't exist. I did, however, have a concept for the artwork. I went off on a tangent with that and kept my silouhetted picture of me. ![]() I figured this concept was pretty controversial, so I just drew a pretty flower where my eye should be. ![]() I deemed this blogworthy, as did the editors. And Andy even liked it. And so, now, Eaglie's Aviary Presents: VoteNest 2008!

Eaglie's prepping himself for a VoteNest extravaganza with plenty of posts, if he's not too drunk to type tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm going to give you guys some encouragement: vote, no matter how bad the candidates are! I mean, personally, I'm thrilled about this election. Maybe you don't see it this way, but Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain are both capable men in so many ways. Either will drag our country back to greatness.* If you can't call that wide-eyed optimism, I don't know what you can. * - As long as Sen. McCain doesn't die and leave Gov. Palin in charge.

![]() And throwing out my right to a secret ballot, I voted against both Blagojevich and Topinka in the Illinois governor race. I figured, what the hell, they're calling each other George Ryan back and forth. They're both mini-George Ryans, so why shouldn't have the real thing? I wrote in "George Ryan" for governor. He hasn't been executed yet, has he?
![]() The Democrats won the House a few hours ago. They're struggling to get control of the Senate, and they've won most of the important Illinois races that were up for grabs. Joe Lieberman came back to win after losing the primary, giving less hope to people who hate party politics. The only successful Independents in the past eight years have been a sourpuss conservative Democrat and a wrestler. I myself would've chosen the wrestler. Luckily, Mark Foley did not win his race even while being a gay child molester and while not running, in a blatant stroke against the norm of democracy.

![]() It's already pretty late in the day... apparently, they're calling the governor's election in Illinois for Rod Blagojevich (D). And, Todd Stroger, the Democrat and son of the original man running in this race, is beating the Republican Peraica handily. In other news, I hear that out of the 10-15% votes counted in that race so far, most is from Chicago cemeteries.

![]() So, the Aviary's senior (and only) analyst (me, of course), after rubbing the sleepy bugs out of his eyes, decides to part with the TV and computer for a few hours... perhaps to rest or perhaps to sleep until he gets up at an ungodly hour to write a paper he should've been doing all night. Bush is winning in popular polls as I type, and has the advantage after CNN declared him the winner of Nevada, meaning that the ante is upped on Ohio. And so, with all hungry lawyer eyes on Ohio, the state has become the new Florida, prompting Cubs fans to hate Ohio even more. As for Illinois, Alan Keyes was found in an alley beaten by a mob of angry black people, all coming from the lower, middle, and upper classes. Apparently, when ambulances arrived for a black man in critical condition, they were surprised to find Keyes. He was promptly denied care, and has reportedly begun his journey back to Maryland, crawling with his one arm that was not broken in more than five places. We wish you luck, Alan! And in a correction of an earlier statement: enjoy election month.
![]() CNN.com Bush 249 - Kerry 242 Well, even though Ohio looks ready to fall to Bush, the above seems to be the standing score for the night. Surprise surprise, it's undecided as of yet, and currently, people are turning out in droves to pay up to their bookies as we speak. |
