As all my scientifically-literate readers know by now, Pluto has disappeared off the chart of planets in this solar system. I hope the scientific community knows what you're doing. A whole lot of Bill Nye episodes just became obsolete because of what you guys did.

Goodbye, Pluto. You were the Pizza and the Pancakes my eager mother served us... served us all.

And now, as with any fitting Internet tribute, the correct YTMND is played.

Comments:

Don't know if you heard about any of the other topics discussed there, but another (heated from what I'm told) topic of debate was the concept of 13 planets. For the reasons that they dismissed Pluto (its non-elliptical orbit among many), they were going to choose 4 other planets similar to Pluto to the list of planets. Who really wants 13 planets? I don't, and besides, all those astrologists are going to be too busy with losing one planet than with gaining three.

R.I.P. Pluto.

Also, I read up on a possible lawsuit formed by students who failed to remember the '9 planets'. They believe their grades should reflect accordingly. Isn't that brilliant?

Nice site by the by, first time browsing through.

I think that's the most serious comment I've ever received. Thank you!

By the way, I do know that it was necessary, but that doesn't change the fact that "My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas" was my second favorite neumonic device just behind "Never Eat Soggy Waffles" =(

I'm glad that Pluto is no longer a planet. As astronomy continues to advance and more of these Dwarf Planets are discovered (and there will be more; possibly many more), people will have to realize that Pluto has been incorrectly labeled for the past 70-odd years because there was no need for a new label. Also, at the time Pluto was discovered, it was thought to be the theoretical Planet X that could explain the orbits of Uranus and Neptune. Of course, we now know Pluto is too small to affect the orbits of those gas giants. If Pluto had been discovered 5 or even 10 years ago, no one would care about this hunk of rock and no one would care that it had been demoted.

Of course, I hate the planet definition including the vague sentence about orbits. Most likely this was used because little is still known about these Dwarf Planets and there is no real way to differentiate the two. I'm sure something more concrete will be used in the future.

P.S. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLZORS P1ut0 g0tz PWDz!!!!11
